Tablescape Thursday: Sunday Dinner At Mom's

For as long as I can remember, my Mom has been making amazing Sunday dinners.  Even with the crazy number of responsibilities she has on Sundays, the need for a nap, one hundred kids in the house, the constant search for her hairbrush, and the "funnies" - we always had Sunday dinner on Mom and Dad's wedding china.  Now it's one of the things I look forward to when we go visit.  Mom is a tablescape artist, but she doesn't have a blog and she doesn't know how to use the macro button on her camera.  So!  A tribute to Mom's Sunday Dinners:

First, the wedding china and matching flatware.  Also, Mom made the table cloth and the napkins.  We never used those teacups, but since they were in the china hutch, I put them on.

Next, the nationally famous rolls!  Every Sunday afternoon when we got home from church there was a bowl on the counter overflowing with roll dough.  Someone always had to "roll out the rolls."  Brian often asks me why we don't have homemade rolls every Sunday.  Whatever.

There is always a beautiful salad, too.  In fact, all the food groups are represented in 95% of the meals my Mom serves.

Of course we need a centerpiece that represents the season or holiday.  This last Sunday she got the tulips from the yard and the fern leaves from a houseplant.  (She did mention that Makenzie attempted to kill that poor fern.  Ha!)  Is Idaho the last place that still has tulips?

Another hallmark of Sunday dinner at my parents house is sparkling dinner conversation.  We had the pleasure of my Grandpa Lloyd Furniss's company on Sunday.  He had some fun stories to tell about his parents and his grandparents.  He didn't take out the swears, which always brings a look of mischief to his face.  Grandma Carol would have been mortified. :)

I need to start pulling out the nice dishes for Sunday...

Happy Tablescape Thursday!

You all are so talented. I knew about the music, sewing, photography, and now Sunday Dinners sound wonderful too. I feel inspired to try to make my own tablescape now. Beautiful!

Your moms wedding china and my mom's wedding china are the exact same! I love that pattern. It's so lovely and it goes with everything. To my good fortune I'm the only girl in the family and my mom has given me her china. I just wish I had a good place to put it. I need a hutch.

Your mom is one amazing lady to do Sunday dinner like that every week.

Your posts brought back memories of my grandma. She had Sunday dinner every year for maybe 60 years. I am not exaggerating, her and grandad got married young. But, those dinners were wonderful! Good food and good times are tied up in our memories forever aren't they? Your table is lovely.

What a beautiful post...I think most of us have fond memories of Sunday dinner. It's such a lost tradition. You've inspired me to start that legacy with my family. It's never too late. Beautiful table setting, too.

do you know the people who have commented on this post? It's true; I'm a plant killer. But it's not because I'm malicious. I miss Sunday dinners!

Thank you for including the picture of Grandpa in your blog. It's amazing that while his body is not what it used to be, his hair still is! A full head of hair! And a big thank you to the person who gave him a haircut.
