Family History Photo Monday: An Afternoon in Oakley, Idaho, April 1980

I was just telling my mother-in-law that I remembered picking asparagus along the ditch banks in Oakley, Idaho, when I was a kid.  Who knew it was April?  And I don't think I did any picking based on these pictures.  This is one of my favorite proof sheets because it tells such a fun story.  The date is April 19, 1980, almost exactly 31 years ago.  We'll start with my Mom...
I believe she made this shawl, yes?  How beautiful does my Mom look here?!  So much energy and authority in that face.
I believe Jen is jumping across the ditch.  Of course we'd only be wearing our finest "grubbies" for this activity.  Those pants are green, I'd bet my life on it.
That's me with a look of intense climbing concentration.  Also, my hair looks so cute and out of sync with my awesome clothes.  I still have that East Carolina T-shirt.  Dad brought it back from school for me - it says "NINI" on the back.
This is my favorite.  First of all, Katy was the most beautiful child in the history of children.  And she's wearing her church shoes to play in a ditch.
This is Grandma Shirley holding Melissa and Grandpa Curtis at the wheel.  I think Grandma and Melissa are wearing the same ruffles on their aprons.
Now we're all left wondering, "Where was Allyn?"  Maybe that's her hair in the back seat of the car?  Sorry, Al.  You were kind of little to be jumping in ditches, though. :)

I did make that shawl/poncho! It's the only thing I ever knitted and I think I still have it. What fun pictures - at least Katy was wearing shoes, which wasn't usually the case. I'm sure she just couldn't find any other shoes. I wonder why both sets of grandparents were there? It would have been close to Grandpa Curtis' birthday, but it could also have been a piano recital. I'll have to check my journal.:) Or Dad's.

You are the winner. These pictures are gorgeous! My favorite is that one of you and Katy climbing out of the ditch. Lovely composition. Also, yay for more baby pictures!

i, too, love that one with you and katy. why does gma look so ticked? maybe she was upset that people thought of picking stuff out of a ditch when she was dressed to go to the picnic social over at the barn raising. there's a nice styrofoam cooler between her and gpa. you know that's where they were going. i must have ridden with dad and gma furniss.
awesome shots by lloyd, as usual

You still have the shirt!? How sweet. I was thinking how much it looked like Evie was climbing the hill with you. I know MY pants were green!

How about my pioneer child shoes? I actually remember this...the cooler was for transporting the asparagus home. The whole outing was Gma Shirley's idea and she was most likely giving orders to somebody else about where to pick. Probably Dad. How classically cheeky of Gpa Furniss to take a picture of her at that moment. Everybody was down for a recital- the one where we are all wearing our dresses from Uncle Mark's wedding.
