The Bright Side

I just noticed I have boogers on my shoulder.  That's about right.  It's been that kind of week around here, but there have been some really great highlights, too.  I photographed the highlights, but I'm going to mention the dark side just in case I look back on this time of our lives with too much nostalgia.  I will live in the moment, whatever moment that is.

Colin has a staph infection on his face and thighs and upper arms.  I would have known it last week if a receptionist at the doctor's office hadn't insisted that all rashes had to go through a nurse first and over the phone.  How do you diagnose a condition over the phone?  So, Colin had a miserable weekend, so itchy he couldn't even sleep and he could barely eat.  Since his "rash" was still there as of Monday, we got him in to see the doctor on Tuesday.  For the next three days Colin had to endure bleach baths (quarter cup of bleach mixed in his bath water) for 20 minutes, two times a day.  What to do with the other baby during that time...?  Antibiotics three times a day, prescription creams and Aquafor within 30 seconds of getting out of the bath.  The good news is he is eating more than anyone else in the house now and he can sleep again.  Whew!

Emil B. learned how to get out of his crib a few nights ago!  So exciting.  He came into Mama and Daddy's bedroom waving and smiling the first six times he did it.  Now he gets up 45 minutes earlier than he used to, because if his eyes are open it must be time to get out of bed.  AAAAAHHHHHH!!!  Serenity Now.  Also, Insanity Now.

There have been some really nice Bright Spots this week, too.  First, I went to the book launch for the new Our Best Bites cookbook at Orson Gygi in Salt Lake.  I was early enough not to have to stand in line for very long and the boys loved the samples.  Plus, I would go to Orson Gygi for NOTHING, nevermind for the chance to eat good food and buy a cookbook I was planning to buy anyway.
This lucky little boy has a Mom who cares about him enough to give him an iPad to play with while they waited in line.  I'm teaching my boys the value of being Disappointed.  You're welcome, Emil and Colin.
These two ladies deserve all their success.  They have lovely cookbooks, a great blog, and Kate and I bonded over our love of the show Suburbia.  Plus, Sara smiled when I told her to write this in my Mom's copy of their cookbook:
I bought some sheet pans and lids to go with it and I saw my dream kitchen in Orson Gygi's showroom.  I'll need to knock out some walls, but it could be worth it. :)

Another great moment was Bridget's new dance class.  She didn't really ask to take dance lessons, but I thought we'd try it out to see if it's her thing.  Bridget is a great observer and I've noticed that she can do some of the moves on her favorite show, "So You Think You Can Dance."  I watched through the glass door for a few minutes (the photo is also taken through the glass) and the look on her face was priceless.  She was so happy!  She watched her teacher like a hawk.

"We got to dance to my song!" ("Call Me Maybe."  Cringe, I know.)  "At first I was scared, and then I WASN'T."  "We danced to 'High School Musical'!!!!  MAMA!!!  MY TEACHER WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Oh yeah, I also had to pull one of Bridget's teeth this week and then the Tooth Fairy was on vacation the first night the tooth was under the pillow.  Or she was too busy.  Or she was sleeping LIKE THE DEAD.  One.  I still say I deserve the gold dollar for the work I did getting that tooth out.  It was the most dramatic production I've ever been a part of.

In conclusion, you take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have The Facts of Life.  The Facts of Life.  There's a time you gotta go and show and grow and now you know about The Facts of Life.  THE FACTS OF LIFE.  I could go on, but I won't because that song already takes up valuable real estate in my brain, it doesn't get my blog too.

And now it's taking up space in MY brain. I LOVE those cookbook ladies and Mom is the luckiest to be the wind beneath their wings. Awesome!

love the hi's and the mania. what better use of your time do you have, really. raising three kids is the time of your life!
you should totally get some pretty cabinetry installed on the other side of your fridge. it would give your kitchen just the right touch.

Oh dear. The Facts of Life! I loved that show! I could continue with the song if you'd like, but then you wouldn't hear my oh-so-horrible voice in person. Something to look forward to.

AHHH! I almost went to the book launch too! That could have been my iPad your kids were learning disappointment from!! Dangit! Next time I will follow inspiration. Kid dance class is the best. Bathing your kids three times a day in bleach? Not awesome.
