I've noticed that I tend to buy Bridget Christmas presents that I secretly wanted when I was a kid. We had to get her a kitchen set when she was two years old. Had to. This Christmas (when she finally got to open it two weeks after Christmas Day) Brian and I got her a "doll house" in the form of a castle with stairs, elevator, characters and furniture to move around. Vicarious dream come true for me. :)
The picture for today is a few weeks late, but it's my own Mother living the dream by giving a barely five year-old me a "Mandy" doll. Each of us got one and Mom made clothes for them. We even had red trunks to keep them in. Now Bridget plays with them at Mom's house when we visit. This photo is also classic because of Mom's pink bathrobe and Allyn's frantic Christmas Day Face in the lower right hand corner. (This is Grandma and Grandpa Furniss's house, which is why there is a picture of Christmas.)

I had a Mandy doll too. Given to me by my mother. I still have it, and the clothes my mom made for me. Mary Kate played with her for many years before she grew up!
one of my favorites. mom is so happy showing you all the perks to the pretty doll. money well-spent, in my opinion. and thanks for another classic of me. i was sporting a mullet back then, i see.
A friend and I were JUST discussing this today. Our conclusion was that we pick out better gifts for our kids than they pick for themselves :) Commercials on Nickelodeon are mostly to blame for their bad taste, to be fair.
My sister Les got a Mandy doll and I got the Jenny doll!! How funny, must have been the year. We have the trunks too, that kept all of their clothes nicely hung and stored.
