Closet of Broken Dreams

Yesterday I exchanged all the stuff in our old guest room (now Bridget's bedroom) closet for all the stuff in Bridget's old bedroom closet. I found some very sad things. That box of CDs Brian has been asking about, a box full of pictures and negatives (archiving negatives is yet another project...), wrapping supplies for Christmas, birthday, and many girl babies, and fabric. Lots and lots of fabric. And yarn. I owe some items a public apology...

1. To the bag full of charcoal gray yarn,
I bought you because I saw a woman on my bus crocheting every day and I thought, "Hey, I know how to crochet! I should make a beautiful throw to put... somewhere." I even brought one of you with me to work one day and asked the woman to show me how to do the cool square stitch she was doing. She showed me and I came home with a three-inch square blanket. That was at least four years ago. You've had a sad life waiting to become something. So sorry.

2. To the appliqued train tree skirt,
I took a class at Mormon Handicraft to learn how to make you and I even bought the kit with all the fabric I would need. I got as far as sort of learning how to make a bias-cut binding. Then our teacher discovered that none of us had the right fusible webbing stuff and decreed that we have another class to finish the tree skirt. Eh?! I did not have another entire Saturday to spare and so you, would-be Christmas tree skirt, are still in a bag. Um, sorry.

3. To the unfinished quilt,
I don't remember what I intended with you. I know I bought too much expensive fabric that was hard to work with to make you. When I'd iron your pieces after sewing them together, the squares changed shape and made me swear. I ran out of that suede-y brown fabric and went back to get more and the new stuff didn't match the old stuff. In conclusion, you owe me an apology. Jerk.

4. To the stack of expensive fabric,
Why did you let me buy you when you knew I didn't have a plan? Okay, I did have a plan for some of you, but it's still pretty sad. Sorry.

I totally know how you feel. Maybe I should add these things to my You Might Be a Mormon If post.

I am ignoring my pile of to-be-completed projects. I think I'll add cleaning up that area to my to-do-someday list. :)
I wish I could even aspire to all of those projects you started!

I'm glad you're still reading my blog, Anne. Sometimes I write things just for you, so I'm glad it's making you laugh. Don't you think you and your girls and Kellie and her prince need to come stay with me some weekend? I do. :)

A very clever post. It is kind of sad, the things you find when cleaning. I have so many pairs of shoes with heels that I bought because they were cute and I really thought it was time for me to start wearing pretty girl shoes. When I'm at the store I forget how uncomfortable pretty girl shoes are. Some are still in the box.

He he he he. For a second I thought, "But I was going to make a blanket..." No I'm not! I'm going to box the yarn up before the week is over. You can add it to YOUR collection. (I know you like it.)

Matt keeps stopping his (tedious) tv show because I'm laughing so loud at your latest post. OH, the STUFF I have piled up!!! I was thinking that in honor of your anniversary on Friday I'll go through that amoire full of yarn and fabric and other things. I know I have some pretty girlie fabric that would make a good car-seat blanket. Interested?
