The Incredible Journey

As in that crazy movie where the beagle, a cat, and one other animal (a bear? a raccoon?) somehow get separated from their owner and end up crossing over the Rocky Mountains to get back home. Melissa and I decided to relive that movie (she's the beagle, I'm the cat, and Bridget's the raccoon) while she was here looking for an apartment earlier this week. I looked a little before she came to town so that we wouldn't waste all the time she had, but the first day was mostly wasted because both of us were drawing blanks. According to Oprah, we should all know something "for sure" and now I know for sure that if the apartment manager is under 23, has too much cleavage and bleached hair, she is leading us into an apartment that smells bad. (Turns out smell is my number one criteria for a place that I could live in. Who knew?)

We started kicking butt and taking names the second day and hopefully found a really nice place (with stairs!) for Melissa and her family to live for a year. We did other things while she was here. Most involved taking in Bridget's new moves during her meltdowns. She brought out the big guns at the sweet little place where we ate lunch on Wednesday - first she was a human wrecking ball in a fragile store, then she pooped her pants, then she kicked and fought me like a real raccoon when we tried to leave. And...scene! Bridget loved her Auntie Melissa, though. And I'm sure it wasn't because Melissa was staying in the mysterious room we never go into (the guest room). Ha! We're so excited to have her and more cousins live close to us. Hip Hip HOORAY!

Speaking of cousins, this is how cute Gabriel was at our luncheon where Bridget lost her cool. What a good little boy! If I wasn't so busy putting the store back together as I followed Bridget around, I would have eaten him for lunch. :)

Thank you SO MUCH for all of your help! Thanks for making apartment hunting feel like something fun to do (to do, to do). :)

That will be so fun to have her close, even if it's just a year.
