Life on the Farm is Kind of Laid Back Unless You're Harrison & Chloe

We spent some time at the farm today with Melissa & the new Utah cousins. Harrison said he was going to tell the pigs this and he was going to tell the pigs that. Chloe wanted to see the donkey and give it hugs and kisses. But then we met the donkey and his teeth are awfully big up close like that. Chloe kept a death grip on Eeyore and begged to be taken far away from the stinky, non-cuddly donkey. We saw the goats and llamas and peacocks and chickens. One rooster got right in Bridget's face and said, "BAWK!" She took a step back in surprise, but she didn't cry. The only animals she refused to visit were the rabbits. "I want it?" (That's what she says when she really doesn't want it.) Perhaps because neither Mommy or Daddy can tell her what the rabbit says. If they don't say anything, why go visit them?

So it turns out that Harrison wasn't really going to tell the pigs off (even though it sounded to me like they had it comin') and Chloe didn't really want to see a live donkey, but they had fun on the horses so it wasn't a wasted trip. Even after we had eaten lunch I couldn't convince Bridget that we were with Aunt Melissa, not Aunt Makenzie. Then I discovered that Harrison thought I was Aunt Makenzie. She makes quite an impression on the kiddies, I guess. (Visit Melissa's blog for evidence of my hidden, secretly useless, talent with goats.)

so hilarious that we teach our kids all about these cuddly animals like bears and donkeys and cows, but really they are huge and they stink and they are scary. but they still LOVE them. banks will run across the street to see a dog, but when he gets right up to it he shies away with his fists and arms tucked in close. tough stuff...not so much.
