Back on the 4th of July, Melissa and her kids missed seeing the balloon launch with the rest of the family. When she found out Sandy City has their very own balloon festival, she was kind enough to invite Bridget and me along. Last Friday morning I woke Bridget up very early and asked her if she wanted to go see balloons. No reaction. I asked if we should go see Harrison and Chloe and Aunt Melissa. Her eyes popped open, the binkie (back off anyone who raised their eyebrows just now - she's potty trained) came out and she gave me an emphatic, "YES!" (How nice was Chloe to bring an extra panda bear to share with Bridget? Too bad the only real panda I've ever seen had a dirty, stinky bum.)
We met near the exit for Sandy and drove to the park together. I've only been to the Provo balloon launch, so I was a little concerned at the lack of cars (was this the right place?) and lack of balloons. It turns out we were early enough to watch them get the balloons out of the trailers and blow them up! We had a beautiful (and soggy) spot of grass all to ourselves, too. The only thing to mar our view was the sound of country "music" coming from a local radio station broadcasting on location near us.
There was plenty to "ooooohhhh" and "aaaahhhhh" at watching them blow up the balloons. For several minutes, most of the balloons were blown up and just standing around. One balloon took off finally, but it was the only one. It started to rain. Before we knew it, the balloons had been deflated and were packed back up into the trailers. What? Chloe and Bridget didn't care, but Harrison talked about how this didn't count for his second balloon launch. (Melissa, Harrison, Chloe and I went to the Provo one together two years ago.) We had a little scare when the rainbow balloon starting deflating and falling toward us. Chloe thought all her nightmares were coming true for a moment.
Since we hadn't tired of each other's company, we decided to go to breakfast at Mimi's. Harrison rode in my car and told me all kinds of juicy stuff. I mentioned that I'd seen his picture on his Mom's blog and he said, "You check my Mom's blog?!" Ha! It's never a good idea to take pictures at a restaurant with little kids. Then I might have remembered why I don't often take Bridget to restaurants.
(Now imagine this image a million times bigger and real. No wonder Chloe made a run for it. I was barely playing it cool myself.)

Um, why the quotes around the word music after the word country? Ha. Just kidding. I know you well enough to know why.
That giant pig balloon is great! I like the new background and colors on the blog, too.
I had no idea Sandy did this! I've been in a hot air balloon once, many, many years ago, when my grandparents lived in St. George. It was awesome.
And that picture of G.W. with the volleyball pictures made me want to throw up. Creepy.
Love the Olympics commentary! I'm in total agreement with everything you've said. I can't talk about the athletes without crying and I think I spent about an hour on You-Tube watching past flame-lightings and crying. My kids keep saying, "Are you crying again?" I'M A WEENIE, OK!! I love the Olympics!!
