You Like Raisins

I've decided to make Thursdays my creativity day... starting today. Every Thursday I want to work on a sewing project, put stickers on something, take some photos that help me learn more about my camera, etc. I won't spend the whole day on whatever it is, but I think I need to set aside time. And I think I need to put it out on the internet so that I feel obligated to keep up with my goal. (Btw, I'm still cheap. In fact, my city bill, which includes electricity, was $40 less last month because I keep all the lights off and the blinds open until about 5:00 p.m. I'm totally beating the city!)

Since two of my favorite things are fabric and ruining surprises, I'm going to post photos of my latest sewing project obsession at the cost of Jennie finding out what her present looks like. (Maybe she doesn't read my blog and I'm just flattering myself.) It's a car seat drape (I used to call it a car seat cover, but too many people thought I meant covering the inside of the seat). I made one for Baby Nathan's car seat and I finished one for Jen's baby (due in March) today. Now I need to do a girlie one... Anyone?

Here's Nathan's. The point of the car seat drape is the velcro handles that attach what is essentially a blanket to the car seat handle so that you can still carry the car seat and the blanket doesn't fall off or get bunched up. Every car seat I see in public has a blanket draped over it so that it's dark and quiet in there for the baby.

Since Nathan is a cowboy, I used cute cotton cowboy fabric on one side and flannel black with white polka-dots on the other side. (I'm modeling this on Bridget's old car seat.) You can see this car seat drape in the background of the last photo in this post. Isn't that so much cuter than the underside of the visor?

Here's the one I made today. I was so excited to start (and finish) this project that I have the frogs leaping from east to west instead of north to south. I'm just planting the seed for it to bother Jennie every time she uses it. Hee!
It's so hard to find fun "boy" fabric, but I thought this was the cutest stuff in the whole store. Bonus that (based on the other three babies she's given birth to) Jen will most likely have a frog! (Ho ho ho ho, he he he he. Now she really will stop reading my blog.)

You're a genius. I could have really used one of these when my kids were younger, the blanket I flung over their carseats would always fall off.

What?! Who is having twins? Why don't I know anything?

Did I just get a blog gift?!?!? I'm SO EXCITED!!!!! I totally love it! It's true that all of my kids are frogs. Maybe you should jump on over here with that froggy gift so that I can squeeze you. Now all I need is a car seat....

P.S. Your sidebar counter is stuck on my last entry before going private. Did you know that?
