November Media Consumption: TV

Since I always mention the same shows, I thought I'd admit to a few I watch every once in a while if I happen to catch them. The last show I mention in this post is a true confession. No judging, please.

Samantha Who? - I started watching this show because I missed Gilmore Girls and Sookie is on it. I keep watching it because it's pretty funny. Jean Smart plays Christina Applegate's ("Samantha") mother and she is hilarious. Samantha has amnesia thanks to a car accident that happened on the first episode (which I haven't seen). She rekindles a grade school friendship with Sookie ("Dena" on this show). Dena is kind of nerdy and chubby and exactly the kind of person Samantha would never hang out with before the car accident. Samantha's friend, Andrea, is a shallow, materialistic, mean girl. I think the dynamic when the three of them are together is good times. Anyway, it's a fluffy harmless show.

The Big Bang Theory - Brian and I end up watching this one because it's right before How I Met Your Mother on Monday nights. The show follows the adventures of four young scientists who are geniuses at their jobs and completely boneheaded at everything else. They are total geeks for Star Trek, they schedule computer game nights, they all have crazy huge collections of action figures (still in the original packages). A cute blonde girl lives across the hall from them. She provides the "normal" voice, I guess.

Top Chef - Since I can't get my Project Runway fix for a long time, I watch Top Chef. I love to see what their assignments will be every week. I'm fascinated that none of them need a recipe to create a dish. Before watching this show (and the movie Ratatouille) I never realized how structured the culinary world is. They're so respectful of title and position. It's kind of nice.

The Real Housewives of Orange County - I'm so grossed out that I started watching this show. Stupid Bravo channel showing a marathon of it about a year ago on the same day that I had a lot of sewing to do. It's the worst thing I've ever seen. The show follows about five women who live in some gated community in Orange County. These women are horrible freaks. They all dress like hookers, wear more make-up than clowns, they're mean and catty to everyone and their whole purpose seems to be buying stuff and having more stuff than their "friends." The one I'm most morbidly fascinated with is Vicki. She is openly jealous of everyone and she says and does the most obnoxious things. Her poor children... A few months ago Oprah magazine made these crazy women over "New York style." I was sad to see how classy they looked without everything hanging out and their hair not colored beyond the normal human colors.

I too watch The Big Bang Theory and get a good laugh out of it.

The Real Houswives of Orange County? I guess I shouldn't talk. I follow Americas Next Top Model. Not too many people know that.

What about all the Jazz games you watch? You should have a Media Consumption: Sports section.

I love Samantha Who? I watch it online when I'm folding laundry - we got rid of cable so we have to watch the Office and Lost with our laptop hooked up to the TV.

Good times.
