First Month

My boys are one month old today!  They've been on an epic road trip - most of which took place on historic Route 66.  They've stayed in hotels and seen part of the Grand Canyon.  And now they've been home and even met some of their friends.

One of the fun things about adopting is that the baby can come to the shower.  Several friends put this wonderful party together.  At first I was embarrassed to have a shower at all - then we went through a box of 84 diapers in four days.  Dude.  That's when I decided it was time to accept as much help as people could stand to give me.  It was such a pleasure to see everyone again and to celebrate this miracle in our lives. :)

Last weekend my parents stayed with us and between the four adults I think we handled life pretty well.  Mostly because my Mom did all the cleaning and cooking.
Look how big Colin is!  At his doctor appointment on Monday he weighed 6 lbs. 15 oz.  He's still long-suffering and I can always tell if it's him crying because he grunts more than cries.  Colin is sporting some peachy-colored hair on top and some weird old man hair in the back.  He smiles when he's sleeping.  ("And the pig was happy, even in his dreams.")  Because of his almost permanent furrowed brow, Bridget is always saying, "Awwww.  Poor Colin."

Emil weighs 8 lbs.  (My friend noted that Bridget is still my smallest baby - even with twins.)  He has quite a bit of dark brown hair, including fancy sideburns.  Emil loves to eat and sleep.  In between, he likes to listen to Chopin and be warm.  He appears to be studying everyone and everything around him.  This morning he studied the stripes on the curtains in his room, so he's noticing more and more of his world.

Friends and family often ask me how Bridget is doing with this monumental change in her life.  Bridget thinks she's one of the adults most of the time.  She wants to hold and feed her brothers and help bathe them.  I'm relieved that she doesn't appear to be jealous of them.  Sometimes when the two of them are crying at the same time, Bridget will exchange knowing looks with me.  ("They sound like Kevin on 'Up!'") I've caught her singing a "song" to them when they're crying in the same pitch that they're crying.  (I'm not a fan.)
Oh - and she's still a princess.  A beautiful princess. :)

Are they fraternal twins? Just wondering from the peachy hair and the brown hair. They're both such handsome boys already! And it is quite a talent of Bridget's to sing in the same pitch. She has a refined ear already. :)

i know it seems like much longer, but that month kind of went by fast. when you say "month" it seems like quite a long time. they do still look so very different from each other. what a relief to not have to be confused when looking at your child.
i am soooo glad you are getting lots of help. bless those friends of yours.

Oh it has been amazing to follow this past month's disappointments and miracles. I still get teary-eyed when I think of the lady loading more toys into the box for Bridget. Thank you for sharing your boys with all of us over the past month. It has been a joy (of course, I AM sleeping all night so I may have brain function to experience joy!) My love and prayers are with you all!

Wow! One month! Great friends - I'm so glad you had a shower. I don't know what we would've done without ours. I love the pictures of your parents holding the twins. So cute!!!

So sweet. Those boys are cute. Marla gave me a big bag of clothes that William has grown out of, so I'll call you soon and set a time to bring them over. It's toddler stuff, so I've got about a year and a half to get there...but I hope it will be sooner :)
