ONE

Our baby boys turned one year old today.  Of course we've been reminiscing about the day they were born and it's funny how it's still so fresh.  By this time last year we didn't know if we would get to take them home - we didn't know if they would be part of our family.  A year ago tomorrow we didn't know if Emil would be healthy.  It seems amazing that we ever had those questions.  They've made Brian, me, and Bridget more joyful, more engaged, more loving.  They've made everything better, and I didn't think that was possible.  Happy Birthday, Emil and Colin!

They each got their own chocolate and peppermint cupcake with a candle tonight (that's on video instead of still) and we watched them make a huge mess.  And I put crowns on them.  They fought that pretty hard until the cupcakes appeared, then they forgot all about those awesome crowns and went to work.  Very low-key (especially compared to Bridget's first birthday), but we're partied out and this might be the only year we can get away with cupcakes and a song.

Emil walked more than he crawled today.  He hid behind the wall and played peek-a-boo with me and laughed and laughed.  Colin has been walking for a while and turning on one foot when he wants to go another direction.  It's the most fun to watch.  It doesn't matter if we have two of the same toy - that just means one of them has to be holding both toys.  They're starting to wrestle each other a little and sometimes I catch them "talking."  In the last two photos you can see Colin's hand resting on Emil's tray.  Just a little check to make sure he's close.  :)
