Brian left for a Java One conference in San Francisco yesterday morning. It's not about coffee. Bridget and I do a few things differently when he's gone. Things that make us glad he's coming back.
DAY ONE
- We took the bike rack back ("I'll give you a broken back!") and got a basket and bike rack for our Subaru. We had to get the basket so that the fork mounted bike rack that doesn't break carbon frame bikes would fit on our flat cross bars. We invited our friends over for "rosies" in the front yard and 45 minutes of pure frustration trying to install a bike rack that secretly does not fit on the basket. Thanks for the up-sell, Subaru Parts Shop. How did you know that I would want to return to your shop AGAIN and try to entertain my sweet little girl while you look through your giant binder for more things that I probably don't need, but that come separately?
- We eat leftovers for dinner after Mommy sees the line at Del Taco. (A place that will be banned just as soon as we get another taco place close enough. Who are the ad wizards putting together that "cougar" campaign? It's time for an intervention.)
- We watch a recorded episode of Oprah because Tom Cruise may be a crazy little dude, but we still like a lot of his movies.
- Bridget recognizes Mommy's weakening resolve and wins the 2:00 a.m. throw-down by crying just long enough to get Mommy out of bed. Since Daddy isn't here, Mommy lets Bridget sleep the rest of the night in the big bed. Bridget wakes up earlier than Mommy and kicks Mommy in the gut in lieu of an alarm.

Ah, yes! The old "kick in the gut" routine. Our kids mastered it, adding kicks to the head. How is it that they all end up perpendicular to you in the bed?
Thanks for posting a comment on my blog. I love to hear from people! I was at Ricks fall of '94-96. Did we overlap? Erin is my husbands cousins wife so that is how we know her. You must have gone to WX High, I was Viewmont. I'm sure we have a connection!
when daddy is gone at our house, mommy leaves the bedroom door wide open. as oppose to when daddy is home and the door is locked and bolted in case anyone wants to intrude.
we also sometimes have tunafish with crackers for dinner. they totally dig it and eat it all!
