I didn't beat the Provo Riverwoods 10 Mile Race as much as I just survived it. It was a beautiful course (lots of shade!) and it was mostly downhill. The only problem was it was too far. My friend, Lisa (who DID beat the race today), and I signed up together back in February when June seemed very far away. We've been taking our long runs together on the trail near our houses every Saturday morning. The difference is that Lisa has also been running almost every day of the week and I've been going... not that much. :) We were able to stick together for the first 6 miles (see, it's a 10K I'm ready for right now). We discussed the pros and cons of our little girls taking dancing lessons and if it came to a choice between dance lessons and piano lessons, we'd keep the piano lessons. Lisa and I have covered many, maybe even all, the topics over the miles we've run together. Anyway, I slowed way down after mile 6 (I will give myself a little credit here and add that we were going faster than I've ever gone for those 6 miles). Lisa missed out on the giant snake that crossed my path and the crazy boy scout (one of many on a merit badge ride in the canyon this morning) who picked it up right in front of me at mile 8. Talk about motivation to move faster. And as I was nearing a garbage can to throw my aid station drink in, someone behind me tossed theirs in and splashed Gatorade all over me. Booo. (That first photo is me drinking after the race, not during.) Other than that, it was just a long run with a Primary song stuck in my head. It felt good to hit this milestone, though. Even 3 years ago I would have thought running 10 miles was way beyond anything I could ever do. (By the way, the number on my check that I wrote to pay for the race and the number on my bib were the same. Creepy.)
More importantly, Bridget and Clara finally had a pool date this afternoon! Last year it took forever to get them ready and into the pool and then they were bored after 10 minutes. This year they knew exactly what to do. I will probably leave out the photos of Kristi hoisting Clara and then Bridget onto the slide a thousand times. Who is the jerk letting a pregnant lady lift the kids? Hmmm. That would be me - sitting in a lawn chair taking pictures and concentrating on not making old lady noises. (I'm in pain. Lots of it.)

Also congratulations to Bridget and Clara for learning the rules of pool play dates.
