Sew & Tell Friday: Chloe's Wall Hanging

I'm very out-of-sorts right now. Blogging from a laptop and using my tiny video camera to take pictures of my project. The worst! It's only because I was computerless yesterday that I even have a Sew & Tell Friday project to share.

Amy posted photos of some cute stuff she found at her Mom's house and one of them was a quilt her Mom had made from a Mary Englebreit panel. It reminded me that I got a free Mary Englebreit panel over a year ago at an open house Broadbent's was having. I remembered thinking it was really cute, but what the heck was I supposed to do with it? (That was before I was really quilting, see.) The little girl on the panel looks like my sweet niece, Chloe, and she just got a new room. A new room with hearts in it. I'm a huge moron when it comes to making up my own patterns, but I had enough scraps of Mary Englebreit fabric to make hearts and to do a nice frame. I like how it turned out - not as intricate as Amy's Mom's panel, but cute. (I washed it after I machine quilted it hoping it would hide my mistakes. Maybe one day I'll use those fabric pens that wash out and do a better job machine quilting. Whatever.)

The most beautiful thing about this project is that it was really inexpensive- the panel was free and most of the other fabric was scraps. The piece I used for the back was $3 a yard. (Sorry about the photos - I usually get to edit them and use a camera that was meant to take still photos. Bah.)

Check our Car Seat Blanket blog for the other two things I made this week. Back when my life was normal. You know, last Tuesday.

That wall hanging is great. And its the little imperfections in our work that make them special... otherwise we would just buy it from some mass market store, made by a machine or in a sweat shop :)

I like it! It's got me thinking about my kid's rooms. Were they just giving away panels? Maybe I need to start stalking fabric stores.

How fun is it to use stuff from your stash and come out with something so sweet?

Cute! I love using quilts to decorate. It reminds me of Holly Hobbie dolls- sweet and vintage.

I think this is wonderful--your niece will treasure this. And I took a peek at the car seat covers--great boy fabric! Hope next week gets better for you.

I LOVE IT! She's going to treasure that forever. Thank you for sharing your amazing talents with Chloe. I can't believe how fast you did that. Just amazing.

P.S. Exactly how does one hang a quilt like that on a wall without ruining it?

I love Mary E! You are going to be a very good sewing teacher. I can tell.

I was good to actually see you in person the other day. Bridget is the cutest, as are you.

What an adorable little quilt! I love the applique hearts. I find it truly amazing that by washing and tumble drying a quilt magically removes all the mistakes!

Nicole,

What a sweet wallhanging -- I love it!!! Appliqueing the hearts in the border is such a great idea.

Thank you for visiting me, and leaving the kind comment on my tulips quilt. :)

I love that border/binding fabric, it is just too cute for words. I am sure Chloe will love it, I mean if she is as cute as this little girl, how could she not?
