Sew & Tell Friday: Rouenneries Black Eyed Susan

The first time I saw Moda's French General Rouenneries fabric I started redecorating every room in my house... in my mind.  A few weeks later I was in a quilt shop with my Mom (DANGER) and she fell in love with it too.  Since it was my plan to make an epic quilt for my parents for Christmas 2010, I let her choose the Rouenneries.  Like an idiot, I bought all the fabric I thought I'd need for a queen size quilt during an after-Christmas sale.  My Mom ended up wanting a wall hanging instead of a queen size quilt - something I should have known before buying all that fabric.

Anyway.

This is my last project in the Rouenneries fabric.  I finally ran out of it. It's another Black Eyed Susan with a plain background and nine patches instead of four.  It measures 42.5" x 42.5" - a lap quilt or a wall hanging, I guess.  After trying to make the flowers random I decided on a more uniform placement.  It reminds me of a tic-tac-toe board a little.  I also did a real binding for the second time in my life, thanks to the tutorial on Old Red Barn (amazing - the pictures saved my life).  The result is much more soothing than my last Black Eyed Susan.  Ahhhhhh....

I did the machine quilting on this one.  You probably guessed that by looking at it.

It looks pretty good on the wall.  Too bad it's covering a light switch.

Outside on the porch rocker before the snow storm.

Maybe it was because I expected this one to go faster than it did, but I ended up getting a little tired of working on it by the end.  Also, hand sewing the binding is for the birds, man.  Ouch!  Thanks to Amy and Sew & Tell Friday, I felt like I had to complete it by the deadline. :)

I LOVE the way you arranged the flower colors...so many people would have tried to spread the red flowers out - but this way is very striking! Bravo!

i don't know nothin' about the rouenneries, but i love what you have done with it! it really is a soothing piece to look at. again, i am amazed that you do these things so swiftly, as if it could possibly be all that you had to do all week.
