Family History Photo Monday: Memorial Day 1982 in Soda Springs

I've been saving these for today because it's Memorial Day!  And this is where we (Brian, me, Bridget, and my parents) spent Memorial Day last year - Soda Springs, Idaho.  We visited the same graves and even went to the "Pioneer" Cemetery in Soda Springs.  (As Grandpa Furniss said, "The only people who know about this cemetery are in the other cemetery.")

This first one has been one of my favorites to squint at when it was on the proof sheet.
Mark, Robert (my Dad), Peggy (my Mom) receiving a pass of Makenzie from Cousin Jill Holbrook, and Allyn in the foreground.  I just now noticed there is someone sitting behind Mom and it looks like Uncle Wayne.  Going to "Soda" on Memorial Day was Grandma Furniss's thing and I love that everyone came with her in 1982.
How awesome is this photo?!  We're playing some kind of freeze game (children of the 80s made their own fun).  Koryn is "It" and running and freezing from left to right is me (Nicole), Allyn, Katy, and waaayyyy back there is Jen.  What the heck, Jen?  Perfectly frozen but not so fast, I think.
More homemade fun - patty cake in a tree (I'm sure it was something more complicated than patty cake).  Can you see Katy's hair in the foreground?
I just like this one - a nice Memorial Day scene.

that baby has to be makenzie, though, right? 1982. anyway- good times on memorial day in soda. i am sure we stopped for some lemonade at the spring at some point during the day.
the other day i made the apricot refresher that is in the sister's cookbook. it calls for soda water. i couldn't remember how much i needed, so i bought quite a bit. lilja got all excited seeing soda in the fridge and took a swig. she was quite upset about the disillusion.

That would be Makenzie, huh? "Where was Melissa?" Ah, soda water! I'm sure the grownups got a nice chuckle every time they insisted we try the soda water without flavoring. I know I would. Happy Memorial Day!

Of course that is Makenzie! Duh. I need to pay closer attention to what I'm doing, for crying out loud. Maybe I'll go in there and fix it right now...

One time I thought a bottle of lemon juice was soda and drank some. Scarred for life.

Obviously the rest of you were cheating- why else were you smiling so deliriously? My guess for the mystery person on the ground was Grandma. Except that it doesn't seem like her to sit on the grass. Hmmmm....
Thanks for taking me home for Memorial Day- I needed it!

I think the person on the ground is Aunt Julie. Uncle Wayne was in New York with his new bride. That was a fun day, except that I left Kenzie in the sun for two minutes and crispied her little nose. I felt so bad! Thanks for the memories!

I love these posts, they are my favorite. My dad looks awesome, what a great picture. And I just got a hankering to take my kida to Soda Springs. My main memory of that place is of Allison hopping off a teeter-totter unexpectadly, sending me crashing to the ground. That and the taste of that water--something akin to the taste of pennies!
