Sew & Tell Friday: Countdown To Christmas Lone Star & Skirts

It's really Sew & Tell Friday!  Go to Amy's to see more fun projects.

I love making lone stars.  That was my Great Grandma Rhoda Lee's signature quilt.  I'm doing it a much easier way, but the results look very much the same.  I also love doing a lone star with Christmas fabrics.  Get it?!  It's a STAR and it's made with Christmas fabric!  Delightful, right? :)
I used Moda Sweetwater's "Countdown to Christmas" fabrics.  I wanted the "burst" (the biggest continual circle of the star) to be in my favorite fabric from that line, the red with all the days in December up to the 25th.  While I was working on it, I felt like I was seeing the number 18 a lot, but now that it's done I hardly see any 18s.  So many people I love have December birthdays, it was fun to think of them being "represented" in this quilt.  Man!  I'm a quilt nerd.
The back is another piece from the same line of fabric.  The black writing says "Have yourself a merry little Christmas" over and over.  Since it wasn't quite big enough, I used some old Mary Englebreit fabric with music on it to break things up.
This is gratuitous, but I love seeing quilts all folded up like this.  Plus, I wanted you to take note of my bias cut, candy cane stripe binding.  It is awesome.  Now we can move on.

There are about a dozen more skirts where these came from, but my part of the assembly line (picking and buying the fabrics, cutting, sewing them into circles, then sewing the hem to the middle) is at the beginning and they're not all finished yet.  We're making them for a boutique on October 15th in front of The Quilting Cottage in American Fork, Utah.  (It's during Shop Hop, for those of you in Utah.  Also, I won't link to The Quilting Cottage's website because it's kind of useless.  These are ladies who don't have much use for the internet, y'all.)  Everything in our shop will be there, too.  Tell your friends. :)  Or if you live far away, buy what you like now because we're hoping it will be gone after the 15th.

Bridget has four cardigans, Allyn.  I've had to make two of all of these because I want Bridget to have just about every one.  What?!  She wants to wear a dress to school every day. :)
