This is probably the coolest thing in Brian's family's history. John Alden (b. 1599) and Priscilla Mullens Alden (b. 1601) came to America on THE MAYFLOWER. Eleven generations back through Brian's Grandpa Don Searle (his mother's father), he has this connection. John and Priscilla are sometimes referred to as "America's First Couple." How about THAT! Their house still stands in Duxbury, Massachutsetts and it's used as a museum.
Since it's Brian's connection, I haven't done a lot of research on the Aldens, but I still get a huge thrill every time I even think about it. They have a pretty decent website for the descendents of John and Priscilla Alden. I'm pretty sure Brian should be a member of some society, right? Free college educations for all his kids? Something! :)

That really is cool! Probably Sons of the American Revolution, or something like that. :) Brian is pretty much blue-blood American.
Now I want to visit Duxbury!
One of my ancestors was the first female to de-board the Mayflower. It really does make you feel pretty cool that your are somehow linked to that world changing part of history and prophecy! Maybe Brian's ancestors and mine knew each other. Probably.
And yes, there should be some club for people like us.
It was fun to open the blog and see this posting. It makes me want to start doing more genealogy
and research.
