Bridget and I took a little trip to Oakley, Idaho, to visit my bff, Kellie, and her son, Xander, while they were there for swimming lessons. Oakley, a very small town, is where I spent my grade school years. Kellie and I have been bff since 1979. That's right, longer than some of you have been alive. Here we are taking t-ball very seriously in 1983.
I chose that picture because it's hilarious and Marva (Kellie's long-suffering Mom) is our coach. That's Kellie sitting next to her Mom (your right) and I'm next to Kellie. I was the pitcher. On the t-ball team. Back off - every one of those little girls hit grounders right to the pitcher's mound.Anyway, I moved away from Oakley in 1984. Kellie and I wrote letters to each other for the next eight years and even got together a few times. When it came time to go to college, we decided to be roommates at Ricks.
In this photo, Kellie is wearing a hat and sunglasses that I dared her to wear to our history class. Our back up roommate, Bridger, is in the middle wearing a T-shirt he made with the then-president of Ricks College's face on it. That's Heidi with the red hair. (When our history teacher saw Kellie in this get-up, he came over and said, "You look cool.") Kellie and I wrote notes to each other during the classes we had together. I've saved some of these notebooks with our notes in the margins. One of my favorite thoughts from Kellie is, "My Mom hit a deer (with a car, not a fist)." The goal was always to make each other laugh outloud during class and call unwanted attention to the one laughing.
So, here we are in our 30th year of friendship. Naturally we've betrothed our children so that we'll have the same grandchildren. They didn't hit it off as well as we hoped, but there's time.
Here is the only shot of Bridget and Xander together. Feeding Charlie. Charlie had just given Bridget a ride that lasted for about eight steps. He needed some refreshment.
I really had to snap the pictures fast to catch her riding Charlie "by myself." Check that off the bucket list.
Here are Heidi's kids getting ice cream at the Hornet's Nest after swimming lessons.
Heidi, Kellie, and me. And now for something you have to see to believe. My delicate little Bridget driving a kid-sized four-wheeler all by herself.

You nailed your game face. Kelly needs some work - way to happy to be there on picture day.
Why haven't I seen that picture before?
I don't remember the picture either, but I do remember watching you play (you were always the mvp. :) So Bridget is getting her bucket list taken care of early? Loved the video, but the girl is going to have to learn to keep her eyes on the road! It's so funny watching her disappear around the corner.
That picture is my new desktop background. Bahaha! I'm so jealous that you have a life-long friend. I can't imagine how fun that must be. Girls mature faster than boys, so maybe there's still hope for the betrothal.
Did you know that when you click on a picture in a post you get a zoomed in view. I just saw your little girl head about as big as my screen.
So, has Kellie lived in Idaho all of her life? Am I wrong to feel so sad about that?
The kid with the picture of the Rick's pres on his shirt cracked me up.
my boys made me watch bridget ride the 'QUAD' as they call it in "o'side" over and over. i guess they still didn't believe it.
i remember that team picture. i love how cara cranney is HUGE and no one else is.
i also long to have a life-long friend. i guess the closest i could come would be katy since i have been her roomate the most.
Sisters are the best life-long friends! I'm getting together with a few of my old friends in a few weeks. It's spooky to not remember a time that I didn't know them.
Look at all those girls that were my age on your team! How come I didn't get to play? That's right. Still bitter after nearly 30 years. JK I think I just didn't want to play. How fun that you could have a little trip with your bff and her kid! (What and where is the Hornet's Nest?)
